Alberto Di Meglio leads CERN openlab and quantum tech initiatives. He is an expert in AI for high-energy physics and public-private R&D collaborations.

Alberto Di Meglio is IT Strategy and Innovation Lead and Group Leader of the Frontier Technologies and Initiative Group in the CERN IT Department. Alberto joined CERN in 1998 and took part since its early stages in the development of the worldwide High-Energy Physics computing infrastructure. Alberto was Head of CERN openlab, one of the foremost CERN public-private R&D collaboration programmes, and coordinator of the CERN Quantum Technology Initiative, a programme to define and implement collaborative R&D projects between CERN, academia, and industry on quantum computing and technologies for fundamental research applications and their translation to industry. Since 2024 Alberto leads the NextGen Triggers project, an ambitious R&D programme to explore applications of Artificial Intelligence to the high-energy physics detectors online data processing systems. Alberto’s main research interests are at the intersection of science and technology with a strong focus on industry and societal impact and knowledge sharing.
